Located at the Ground level of the Harris Teeter parking garage.

Cold weather should not be a stress test that a national charging network routinely fails.

At the Harris Teeter location in Baltimore, Electrify America’s charging station was effectively nonfunctional during freezing conditions. Of the available chargers, only one was operational. A queue formed. I waited over an hour and a half to charge, only for the charger to fail entirely once my session began.

Meanwhile, directly adjacent to this site were eight or nine Tesla Superchargers operating without issue. Cars arrived, charged, and left efficiently. Drivers unloaded groceries, plugged in, and departed. The contrast could not have been clearer or more embarrassing.

When the Electrify America unit failed, customer support offered no meaningful assistance. The interaction amounted to the customer acting as unpaid technical support, relaying error messages from the screen back to a representative who could offer nothing beyond excuses and vague reassurances. No solution, no recovery, no accountability.

This is not a minor inconvenience. For EV drivers, charging infrastructure is not optional. It is the spine of the entire promise. When a charging network collapses under predictable winter conditions, it signals either poor engineering, poor maintenance, or poor prioritization. Possibly all three.

If Electrify America intends to be taken seriously as a national charging provider, reliability must be the baseline, not the aspiration. Cold weather is not an anomaly. It is a certainty. And right now, Electrify America appears unprepared to meet it.

We were not sure about this charging location when we found it on Plugshare. Inside a parking garage. It didn’t sound promossing but it was a great site. It’s located on the second floor. It’s located right across the street from the Harris Teeter which has a StarBucks at the entrance.

I took a two mile walk while the car charged and my wife did a little shopping at Harris Teeter and got us a coffee, tea and breakfast sandwiches before heading back to the car. The area is nice to walk in with lots of shops, restaurants and other places to get coffee.

The chargers are Electrify America chargers so you use the EA app to charge. The price is $056kW. I want to see all chargers under $0.50 kW with $0.30 about the equivalent of current gas prices. We did 64.8kW for $35. Started at over 150kW (our car’s limit) and went down to about 100kw until near 80%. Being on a 1,500 mile trip we charged to 95%. We were the only EV charging at first, then a second and finally a third EV arrived. Three of the four chargers were being used (including us). There are Tesla Charges near the EA chargers which helps the load here. On the first floor there are some Level 2 Chargers which would work great for works nearby.

Chargers are great and accessible to small shopping center.  However for the past two weeks 2 of the 4 fast chargers have been unavailable so the wait times have increased.   Meanwhile you sit waiting next to 8 Tesla chargers that always have availability.

2nd level of parking garage.  I was in Baltimore and wanted a Level 3 charge for my EQS and saw that Harris Teeter had an Electrify America charging station so I went there and it was a nice area, clean and all worked perfectly. Again, it was on the second level of the parking garage..

This is a balanced charging station and it's heavily used so even though these are all the newer 350kW chargers, you'll be lucky to get over 100kW.

It's on the second floor right across from the Harris Teeter. Follow the signs for the Tesla supercharger.  The entrance that goes up to the second floor is the one that is not in front of the Harris Teeter.
