Cookies Policy

Last updated: August 31, 2026

This Cookies Policy describes how Aalto uses cookies and similar technologies in connection with our Sites and Services. It supplements our Privacy Policy.

Overview

This Cookies Policy describes how Aalto (“Aalto”) uses “cookies” and other similar technologies in connection with our Sites and Services. Any capitalized term used and not otherwise defined below has the meaning assigned to it in the Privacy Policy.

1. What is a Cookie?

Cookies are small text files that are stored in a computer’s browser directory. They help site providers with things like understanding how people use a site, remembering a user’s login details, and storing site preferences. Aalto uses cookies as well as similar technologies (e.g., URL tracking, local storage, and software development kits in our mobile apps). For the purpose of this Cookies Policy, such technologies are included in the term “cookies”.

2. Does Aalto use Cookies?

Yes. We use cookies in accordance with our Privacy Policy to:

  • ensure that our Services function properly,
  • detect and prevent fraud and violations of our terms of service,
  • understand how visitors use and engage with our Sites,
  • advertise our products and Services, where allowed, and
  • analyze and improve our Services and your Site experience, including improved relevancy and navigation, customizing your user experience (such as language preference and region-specific content), and curating content about Aalto and our Services that’s tailored to you.

3. Who Sets Cookies When I Use Aalto’s Sites?

There are two main types of cookies that can be set:

  • First party cookies: these cookies are placed and read by Aalto directly when you use our Services.
  • Third party cookies: these cookies are not set by Aalto, but by other companies: for example, our payment processor (which sets cookies on pages where payments occur, including for fraud prevention), mapping providers, and analytics providers. See Section 5 below on how to manage these cookies.

4. How Aalto Uses Cookies

Cookies play an important role in helping us provide effective and safe Services. Below is a description of the commonly used cookie types and the purposes that apply to them. Aalto distinguishes between three different types of cookies:

  1. Essential Cookies
  2. Functional Cookies
  3. Advertising Cookies

Essential Cookies

Some cookies are essential to the operation of our Sites and Services and make them usable and secure by enabling basic functions like page navigation and access to secure areas of the Sites. We use those cookies in a number of different ways, including:

  • Authentication. To remember your login state so you don’t have to log in as you navigate through our Sites, apps, and dashboard.
  • Fraud Prevention and Detection. Cookies and similar technologies that we deploy through our Sites help us learn things about computers and web browsers used to access the Services. This information helps us monitor for and detect potentially harmful or illegal use of our Services. For example, to help secure payments for charging sessions and minimize fraud, we and our payment processor collect additional information through the use of cookies and other technologies to help identify bad actors and prevent fraudulent transactions.
  • Security. To protect user data from unauthorized access.
  • Operational. To keep our Sites and Services working correctly, like showing you the right information for your selected location.

Functional Cookies

Functional cookies provide enhanced functions, performance, and services on the Sites beyond the basic operations permitted by Essential Cookies.

Preference cookies are used by Aalto to remember your preferences and to recognize you when you return to our Services.

Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors interact with our Services. We use those cookies in a number of different ways, including:

  • Site Features and Services. To remember how you prefer to use our Services so that you don’t have to reconfigure your settings each time you log into your account.
  • To Analyze and Improve Our Services. To make our Sites and Services work better for you. Cookies help us understand how people reach our Sites. They give us insights into improvements or enhancements we need to make to our Sites and Services.
  • Pixel tags (also known as web beacons and clear GIFs). May be used in connection with some Services to, among other things, track the actions of users (such as email recipients), measure the success of our marketing campaigns, and compile statistics about usage of the Services and response rates.
  • Third Party Analytics. Through third-party analytics services in order to collect and analyze information about the use of the Services and report on activities and trends. Such services may also collect information regarding the use of other sites, apps, and online resources.

Specifically, Aalto uses Mixpanel as its analytics provider. Where your consent is required, and only after you have given it, Mixpanel sets first-party cookies prefixed “mp_” (storing a random device identifier and analytics state, for up to one year) and may record how you interact with our Sites — pages visited, clicks, and scrolling — to help us understand where our Services are confusing or broken. These recordings mask all typed input and on-screen text. Rejecting or withdrawing consent stops this collection and removes the associated cookies.

Advertising Cookies

We and our service providers may use cookies and similar technologies on our Sites to direct Aalto ads to you through targeted advertisements for Aalto Services on other sites you visit and to measure your engagement with those ads.

5. Can I opt in and opt out?

Yes. Aalto uses cookies in accordance with applicable law and, depending on the country or jurisdiction you are located in, Aalto will ask for your prior consent before non-essential cookies are used, or offer you the option to opt out of non-essential cookies.

You can opt out of non-essential cookies through our cookie settings.

Your web browser may also allow you to manage your cookie preferences, including to delete and disable Aalto cookies. You can take a look at the help section of your web browser or follow the links below to understand your options. If you choose to disable cookies, some features of our Sites or Services may not operate as intended.
